Wood Destroying Pest Control Products

Carpenter Bee Carpenter bees are so named because they excavate galleries in wood to create nest sites. They do not consume wood. Rather, they feed on pollen and nectar. Carpenter bees are important pollinators of flowers and trees. Carpenter bees typically are just nuisance pests that cause cosmetic rather than structural damage to wood. Nonetheless, considerable wood damage can result from many generations of carpenter bees enlarging existing galleries in wood.
Horn Tail Wasp Horn tail wasps are wood boring insects, which generally cause concern when they bore out of wood in a house. The wasps bore in the wood of trees, and though they seldom do great damage to the tree, they may be present in the wood when the tree is cut into lumber. Within a year or so after house construction, horn tail wasps may bore out of the infested wood and may even bore through sheet rock and similar materials which are next to the infested wood. Horn tails are not structurally damaging unless they emerge in large numbers. They do not attack dry, finished wood, and so they should not re-infest the wood of the house. Horn tails may also be brought into the house in firewood.
Powder Post Beetle Power Post Beetle is a term used to describe several species of small (1/8-3/4 inches long), wood-boring insects which reduce wood to a fine, flour-like powder. Damage is done by the larvae as they create narrow, meandering tunnels in wood as they feed. Infestations are discovered after noticing small, round "shot holes" in the wood surface. These are exit holes where adult beetles have chewed out of the wood after completing their development.
Borer Beetle Wood infested with wood-boring beetles has numerous "shot holes" in the surface. Small pieces of sawdust (frass) produced by the larvae as they tunnel may sift from the holes when the wood is bumped or disturbed. Cutting into the infested wood often reveals many tunnels filled with frass. Characteristics of the frass and the tunnel system vary between different wood-boring beetle species. Sub-flooring, hardwood flooring, interior trim, joists, sills and especially beams are subject to attack. Other wood products, such as hardwood furniture, implement handles and ladders, may also be attacked. Log houses are especially vulnerable. Vacation or recreation structures are also more prone to beetle attack because they often have higher moisture content in the wood due to intermittent heating or poor ventilation .
Fungus/Mold/Mildew Mold and mildew are both in the kingdom fungi. Many people refer to 'mildew' as the commonly occurring fungi that grow on damp clothing or bath tiles. In reality, such growth is typically a filamentous mold (genus: Aspergillus) of the types likely found on water-damaged building materials.
